Celebration of art selected for next season, with music provided by young musicians

This evening we present two pieces written exactly one hundred years apart.

Kevin Volans wrote his string quartet in 1986, based on the traditional music of several South African tribes. The piece is quite beautiful, with complex rhythms and shared melodic lines, and is a great deal of fun to listen to and to play.

Gabriel Fauré’s Piano Quartet in G Minor from 1886 is a piece filled with emotional contrast from the tempestuous to the tranquil. Throughout the quartet the characteristic harmonic richness and melodic craft of all Fauré’s work is evident.

I hope you enjoy these works as much as we do!
