Fior Angelico
Spanish Music for Lamentation and Rejoicing

Friday, November 17
8:00pm •  7:30pm Pre-concert Talk

St. Joseph Cathedral

The series of liturgies for Holy Week has inspired some of the most beautiful music in the Christian tradition, prompting composers to explore the very extremes of human emotion, from grief to exultation. This program juxtaposes these two extremes with music by the Spanish Renaissance composers Francisco Guerrero, Alonso Lobo, and Tomás Luis de Victoria, featuring Victoria’s setting of The Lamentations of Jeremiah for Good Friday as well as Lobo’s Missa Maria Magdalene for Easter Sunday.
