Dean Yoder will present a lecture featuring the recent conservation efforts behind Caravaggio's masterpiece in the collection of the CMA. He will discuss the art historical significance of the painting and the aesthetic problems associated with previous restorations, which prompted the recent transformative conservation treatment. The conservation also revealed aspects of the artist's enigmatic painting technique that were previously unknown.
