For over two decades, Tsunami Books has been much more than just an independent, locally owned bookstore. It has opened its doors to host over 3000 community activities, including a wide variety of concerts, author signings, poetry readings, fundraisers, and political events, its stage comfortably nestled among shelves containing over 30,000 hand-picked quality used and new books.
Tsunami’s future is now threatened by an increase of $5000 per month in its rental expenses. The local community has responded by raising over $125,000 in pledges to help Tsunami meet its increased lease obligations, an increase of more than $300,000 over the life of the new 5 year lease period.
This effort is now joined by critically-acclaimed Welsh singer/songwriter Martyn Joseph, who will play two acoustic sets at the Wildish on Saturday, September 23, 2017, starting at 7:30 PM.
Martyn has sometimes been described as the Welsh Springsteen. Throughout his lengthy career, he has established a well-deserved reputation of providing a memorable live musical experience of a quality rivaled by few performers. His songs are well crafted, meaningful, and thought provoking, often dealing with social justice issues overlooked by the broader community, and always accompanied by his masterful acoustic guitar playing. Martyn performs with the passion and sincerity that can only come directly from his heart. He regularly creates lifetime fans out of those who are lucky enough to see him for the first time.
100% of all ticket sale proceeds will be donated to Tsunami Books in a continuing community effort to preserve this local treasure.
