Duke Ellington's Sacred Concerts
The Cotton Club goes to church. Duke Ellington considered his three “Sacred Concerts” from the mid-1960’s “the most important thing I have ever done.” While not trying to compose a mass, the concerts have been referred to as Ellington’s attempt to bring the Cotton Club to the church. We will bring our 110 voices, guest vocalist Joslyn Ford-Keel, and a sextet to this end of the season jazz extravaganza.
There is a free pre-concert talk 30 minutes prior to the start of the performance.
