Something Old, Something New: An Evening of Neoclassical Works with Guitarist Nicolò Spera
PROGRAM:
- Maurice Ravel (1875-1937) Le Tombeau de Couperin
- Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (1895-1968) Guitar Concerto No. 1 in D Major, op. 99
- Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971) Suite from Pulcinella, after J.B. Pergolesi
Delightful, fun, and full of pizazz. Join us for a program of neoclassical works that pay homage to the old while envisioning the new. Stravinsky’s setting of Pulcinella, the clown, covers all of the moods, but especially humor. Nicolò Spera, playing a concerto by his countryman, Italian Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, is not to be missed. It’s a sublimely beautiful and engaging work.
