Part 1 (Tunisia & NE Algeria)
Nuba: A Dance Journey Through The Maghreb
AMEL TAFSOUT * 3hr, ALL
Sat Aug 11, 9a-12p
Part 1. Students are welcome to take parts 1 and 2 together, or separately. They will build off each other, but part 2 is accessible without taking part 1.
In this workshop Amel Tafsout will introduce the various dance movements that are specific to Tunisia and NE Algeria, such as Tunisian hip twists and the Algerian hip figure eights. She will teach the similarities and differences in each dance, talk about costuming, give some background of each dance and teach some sequences for each style.
We will be starting with a warm up while integrating some basic moves and steps of various Maghreb dance styles, then focusing on the Tunisian and North Eastern Algerian dances while introducing the North African rhythms and their complexity. We will be following a choreography.
