Creative Arts Guild and Dalton State College offer Alexander Technique Educational Technique Friday, March 9 and Saturday, March 10, 2018

Dr. Lillian Pearson, certified teacher of the Alexander Technique (AMSAT), will be in residence for two days at the Creative Arts Guild, March 9th and 10th.
The Alexander Technique is an educational method used worldwide for well over 100 years. It has been widely used and studied by musicians, actors, and all kinds of artists, as well as by the general populace. By teaching how to change faulty postural habits, it enables improved mobility, posture, performance and alertness along with relief of chronic stiffness, tension and stress.

Dr. Pearson says, “I have been studying the Alexander Technique since 1995. In 2007 I began the teacher training with Missy Vineyard, and was certified in 2010. A professional pianist, I perform as soloist and collaborative musician, and have been teaching piano at universities for over 25 years. I have studied with Nelly Ben-Or in England, focusing on the application of the Alexander Technique to playing piano. I welcome working with all interested in exploring this exceptional process of learning. My experience as a pianist makes me uniquely qualified to understand and work with performing artists as well as developing musicians.”

Dr. Pearson will hold Alexander Technique workshops and a special “rehearsal”, open to anyone, on Friday, March 9th and Saturday, March 10th from 10am to noon, at the Creative Arts Guild, located at 520 West Waugh Street in Dalton. Cost is $10 for one workshop, or $15 for both. Those attending workshops are encouraged to bring a towel or mat. Dr. Pearson will also collaborate in an open rehearsal on Friday, March 9th at 7:30pm. The rehearsal is a peek inside of how the rehearsal process for performances work. Attendees registering for one workshop may attend the open rehearsal Friday evening at no cost. Admission to the rehearsal is $5.00 and is open to the public to observe. Dalton State staff and students are admitted free with a valid i.d. Those actually “rehearsing” will be together for the first time and will be scheduled in advance.

All events are open to persons high school age and older. Pre-registration is encouraged but not required. Dalton State staff and students are admitted free with a valid i.d. Private 30 minute sessions will be offered Friday and Saturday afternoons for an additional cost of $25 to all, including Dalton State staff and students.
