Arabic & Amazigh Berber Symbols- Lecture
AMEL TAFSOUT * 90min, LECTURE CLASS

Sat Aug 11, 5-6:30p

In ancient times and in many parts of the world a variety of symbols were used around every stage of life. The belief that certain objects possess powers against danger and disease is found throughout the world and has always existed.
Such objects that were worn round the neck to prevent disease or to protect the person from danger or misfortune are often called talismans or amulets. Many objects may contain a baraka (a blessing).

Amel Tafsout will talk about specific symbols such as the Khamsa, the Eye, the various shapes found in Tribal marks, textiles and jewelry, and explain their meaning and how they still are used and have an impact on Popular culture with a PowerPoint presentation.
