Improve Your Improv: Insight into your brain & body on freestyle movement

From creating building blocks for choreography, to artistic development, to general practice to cathartic release, improvisational movement is a wonderful and necessary tool in every dancers toolbox. Though for all of the ways it enriches our practice it can sometimes be quite daunting or even paralyzing to engage in. Exploring the neuroscience of improvisation through recent research and implementing a handful of carefully selected exercises and prompts we will explore the magic that is improvised movement and come away with a refreshed sense of courage and curiosity when it comes to our dance practice.
This class will consist of a 60-minute lecture and 60 minutes of movement.
- Difficulty: All levels welcome, though this workshop is designed for dancers with a year or more of dance experience.
- Please bring: yoga mat, pad and pen, layers of clothing to keep warm during the lecture, and your favorite reusable water container
- Optional: dance shoes, exercise towel
