The Philadelphia Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra and Flamenco Sensation Liliana Ruiz

Saturday, June 9, 2018 8:00 PM

The Philadelphia Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra dazzles audiences from LA to New York’s Lincoln Center, Rio de Janeiro to Moscow’s iconic Tchaikovsky Hall with powerful performances. Founder and Music Director Daniel Spalding, recognized as “one of the most innovative conductors on today’s music scene” brings Uptown! a production designed to leave audiences not just entertained, but enthralled.

Flamenco sensation Liliana Ruiz and dance partner Raed Nasser add amazing footwork, the clatter of castanets and brilliant costumes to Maestro Spalding's 22 piece orchestra for a tantalizing interpretation of Bizet’s “Carmen”. Arranged by Rodin Shchedrin and performed by a unique makeup of strings and five virtuoso percussionists on over 40 instruments, their CD recording of this work was a Grammy finalist.

Program includes Leonard Bernstein's “Danzon” and "Three Tangos" by Astor Piazzolla, Argentina’s revered composer. Drums, marimbas and xylophones bring forth the authentic flavor and syncopated rhythms of Latin music.
