Oscar Wilde’s smart social satire centers around a powerful politician and his high-minded wife who are beloved by London society. When a mysterious woman arrives to blackmail Sir Robert with damning evidence of a past misdeed, his career and marriage could be destroyed if she makes good on her threat. With his signature wit, Wilde pulls the curtain on the affluent, moralistic Victorian society. Hypocrisy, love put to the test, and scandal hold the intrigue in this timeless comedy — and only by way of enduring friendship and forgiveness do we discover love has little to do with ideals.
