James Hill and Anne Janelle

Ukulele and cello

Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019 -- 7:30 p.m.

Their music came together by chance. When you hear the ukulele of James Hill paired with the cello of Anne Janelle you’ll be thankful it did. They first collaborated when picked for a track on a compilation album. It led to their duo recording, True Love Don’t Weep, a mixture of traditional tunes and original songs which showcased the duo’s ability “to capture the soul of a song,” (Folk World). The recording won a Canadian Folk Music Award for Best Traditional Album of the Year in 2009. Since then they have released solo albums and toured in over 15 countries, making their mark not only as world-class, award-winning instrumentalists but as some of the finest songwriters of their generation. Now they are back in tandem. “We walked our separate musical paths for a while, but I think we both came to realize, each in our own way, that the duo is our strongest musical offering. There is passion, there is diversity, there are many levels with which an audience can engage with our music when it’s not one or the other but both of us,” said Janelle. You’ll find, said the Wellington Dominion-Post, that a night out with the duo is “the perfect evening of tunes, stories and musical virtuosity”
