With its timeless tale of rivalry and star-crossed lovers, West Side Story is celebrated as the greatest Broadway musical of all time. The Tony-winning masterpiece features the original groundbreaking Jerome Robbins choreography from the 1957 Broadway production and Academy Award-winning movie, and such enduring songs as “Tonight,” “America,” and “Somewhere.”
Inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story is transported to modern-day New York City, as the two young idealistic lovers, Tony and Maria, find themselves caught between warring street gangs, the Jets and the Sharks. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate and prejudice is one of the most innovative and heart-wrenching musical dramas of our time. More than half century after its debut, the important message of the show remains just as relevant today.
