BLUE/ORANGE
JULY 25 - AUGUST 10, 2025
Winner of the Olivier Award for Best New Play
Written by JOE PENHALL
Directed by MICHAEL EDAN
Set in a London Psychiatric Hospital in the year 2000, Blue/Orange is a provocative drama with a dark comic edge that explores issues of mental health, class status, power and racial prejudices in a failing UK National Health System. It won the 2001 Oliver Award and Critics Choice Award for Best New Play, and the Evening Standard Award for Best Play. Christopher, a young Afro-Caribbean man has reached the end of his bureaucratically allocated 28 days of sanction in a psychiatric hospital for misbehaving in a public marketplace. He finds himself caught between the clashing ideologies and egos of two white doctors led by careerism, dogma and unexamined prejudice.
