Upcoming Shows & Events

by Ira Levin

directed by Scott Palmer

The longest-running thriller on Broadway comes to Main Street in downtown Hillsboro. A fiendishly clever plot, with nerve-jangling twists and turns, Deathtrap is a true classic of American theatre.

Sidney Bruhl, a once-successful writer of stage thrillers, is in the grip of chronic writer's block, when young playwright Clifford Anderson sends Bruhl his brilliant new whodunit, Deathtrap. Desperate to set Broadway alight once more, should Bruhl kill the newcomer and pass the play off as his own?

No one is who they appear to be, and, with every twist and turn, Deathtrap will keep you guessing until the bitter, bloody end! A taut, terrifying, and thrilling way to kick off the Halloween season!

Father, Son and Holy Coach

November 1 & 2, 2018 at 7:30pm

The Vault Theater - 350 E Main St. Hillsboro

Welcome to Tupelo County, Georgia, where even the local Easter egg hunt takes on legendary, Super Bowl proportions. In Father, Son & Holy Coach, Friday night football is the motif that illuminates a father/son journey gone hilariously off the rails. Over the course of 90 minutes, Posey, who confesses he was shaped by a complex and conflicted relationship with his own father, seamlessly portrays over two dozen different characters — the entire town of Tupelo. “It’s a very funny, but also poignant, study of the fragile psyche of an aggressively overprotective father,” explains Posey. “This man’s main reason for living is to prevent his child from experiencing what he perceives to be life’s failures. Finally, after years of trying to live up to his father’s expectations, the son must go his own way.”

Posey debuted Father, Son & Holy Coach to rave reviews in 1993 (“Wonderful… much humor drawn from real people” — Daily Variety ; “A funny and absorbing chronicle of a fanatical father’s attempt to rear a gridiron superstar” —Los Angeles Times) and has since toured it all around the country...always to raves from reviewers and audiences alike. The screen adaptation has recently been set up at Salt Entertainment Group.

John's real life son, Tyler Posey, best known as Scott McCall on the MTV series Teen Wolf, is one of the co-producers of the show. “This is a father/son story, and the production is a father/son endeavor,” John says. A graduate of the University of Florida, John grew up in Florida, Georgia, and Oklahoma. He first came to the attention of network casting executives who discovered him on stage with the Atlanta-based comedy group, “Comedia,” a group Posey co-founded in the ‘80s, and brought him to Los Angeles. Since then, John has compiled a long list of credits that includes recurring roles on How to Get Away with Murder and Teen Wolf and guest starring appearances on Criminal Minds, 24, Boston Legal, NCIS, Scorpion, ER, Seinfeld, Manhunter, From the Earth to the Moon and Newsradio among others.

An established writer, Posey is currently collaborating with Academy Award-winning writer Tom Schulman (Dead Poet’s Society) on a screenplay about a prep school lacrosse team and their “not-so-prep school” coach. He has sold original feature scripts to Disney, including Eddie The Eagle, The Accidental Olympian about the wildly inept British ski-jumper who found fame in the 1988 winter Olympic games, and to Sony. He wrote, produced and starred in Legendary, a coming-of-age drama with Patricia Clarkson and Danny Glover that was released in 2010. His original script, Gorgeous George, has been set up at WWE Film Studios. Posey wrote for the TV series Doc from 2001-2004 and created the syndicated radio series A Lighter Look at Sports for CNN radio.

Father, Son & Holy Coach is a show for everyone. Moms and dads. Teenagers. Football fans and "football widows." It is often riotously funny and at other times will bring tears to your eyes.

It's A Tony Starlight Christmas!

Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018 at 7:30pm

The Vault Theater - 350 E Main St. Hillsboro, OR 97123

Remember the classic holiday TV shows of your childhood, when entertainers like Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, and others sang songs and spread the holiday cheer far and wide and you couldn’t help but feel the warmth and glow of the season? It’s a Tony Starlight Christmas brings back these uplifting holiday traditions and puts a fresh, comedic spin on them.
Tony has joined forces with Bo Ayars (arranger and conductor for Liberace) to put together a Vegas-style Christmas program like nothing else. No other show has swinging jazz like “Let It Snow,” comedy routines where Joe Friday arrests Frosty the Snowman, impressions of Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Jimmy Durante, Neil Diamond and others, duets with guest vocalist Barbara Ayars (backup singer with Bobby Vinton and Steve & Eydie) and the songs from such holiday specials as “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas,” “Scrooge”, and several of the Rankin/Bass animated specials like “The Year Without A Santa Claus” and “Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer.” The show is both silly and sweet; always well-rehearsed, yet still spontaneous.

Burns Night is a traditional Scottish holiday celebrating the life, times, and poetry of Robert “Rabbie” Burns. This 5th annual event, hosted in our very own home, The Vault Theater and Event Space, will feature expanded silent and live auction packages with a decidedly Scots-flavor!

The Island in Winter, or La Isla en Invierno

a world premiere adaptation based on

The Winter's Tale by William Shakespeare

adapted by Carlos-Zenen Trujillo

directed by Scott Palmer

Our inaugural Problem Play Project production is a remarkable new vision of Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale in a bilingual world premiere adaptation! The Bard's spellbinding tale of jealousy, prophecy, magic, and redemption, reworked by Hillsboro-native Carlos-Zenen Trujillo, transports the action away from Sicilia and Bohemia to Miami and Havana.

Bringing Latin-American magical realism to play in one of Shakespeare's most compelling (and magical) tales, The Island in Winter is the first show in a three-year project that asks emerging playwrights of color to re-imagine Shakespeare's Problem Plays with a diversity and equity lens.

March 7-29, 2019

Thursday, Friday, & Saturday at 7:30pm

Sunday at 2:00pm

The Vault Theater - 350 E Main St Hillsboro

by Jeremy Bloom

adapted from Peter and Wendy, and The Little White Bird by J.M. Barrie

directed by Cassie Greer

We all think we know the classic children's story of Peter Pan: the boy who never grows up, Captain Hook, Tinkerbell, Lost Boys, and a hungry crocodile. Well, that is NOT this show!

Jeremy Bloom's adaptation of the classic J.M. Barrie tale digs deep into the darker side of Neverland, breaking the story down into its most essential and imaginative parts, and creating a much more adult exploration of the psychology and meaning underlying one of the most famous "children's" stories ever told. Our final show of the 18-19 Season is decidedly NOT for children, but instead is a uniquely Bag&Baggage exploration of one of the greatest classics of Western literature.
