The Best of Everything

From the novel by Rona Jaffe, adapted by Julie Kramer

September 10 - 27, 2015

Thursday-Saturday at 7:30pm, Sunday at 2:00pm

The Venetian Theatre

A new adaptation of Rona Jaffe’s groundbreaking 1958 bestseller about the challenging lives of ambitious secretaries working in the big city. Think “Mad Men” meets “Payton Place”… These girls want thrilling careers and gay adventures - and husbands and children, too … eventually. Today we might call that “having it all”; these women called it having “The Best of Everything.” …and they’re not sure it is possible, either.

Rope

By Patrick Hamilton

October 8 - November 1, 2015

Thursday-Saturday at 7:30pm, Sunday at 2:00pm

The Venetian Theatre

For the mere sake of adventure, danger, and “the fun of the thing,” Wyndham Brandon persuades his weak-minded friend, Charles Granillo, to assist him in the murder of a fellow undergraduate. They place the body in a wooden chest, and to add spice to their handiwork, invite a few acquaintances - including the dead youth’s father - to a party… all the while daring their guests to uncover their horrible crime. A murder mystery in reverse that inspired the Hitchcock classic.

Join our beloved cast of crazies for their final radio performance before the studio is destroyed to make room for a television sound stage! A KBNB Kristmas Karol is the final show in our 1940s holiday radio trilogy and stars many of the same characters from the critically acclaimed It’s a (somewhat) Wonderful Life and A Miracle on 43rd St… this year joined by Lana’s younger sister, Laverne, and two german post-modern sound designers who all join forces to hilariously butcher the granddaddy of all holiday shows: A Christmas Carol! A 1940s holiday radio massacre - Bag&Baggage style!

Moby Dick, Rehearsed

Based on Moby Dick by Herman Melville, Adapted by Orson Welles

March 3 - 20, 2015

Thursday-Saturday at 7:30pm, Sunday at 2:00pm

The Venetian Theatre

A Shakespearean company meets to begin rehearsals for a production of King Lear. The director enters and hands out scripts for a new play called Moby Dick. As the actors take up their new roles, the theatre is transformed from a simple rehearsal room into the yardarms, sails, mast, and deck of the ship that is hunting the great white whale. Based on Orson Welles’ 1955 rehearsal experiment at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London, Moby Dick, Rehearsed is a remarkable celebration of one of the greatest novels ever written and a triumph of theatrical imagination.

Jane Austen’s Emma

Based on Emma by Jane Austen, Adapted by Michael Fry

May 5 - 29, 2015

Thursday-Saturday at 7:30pm, Sunday at 2:00pm

The Venetian Theatre

Emma is one of the best-known and most beloved of all english novels, and Jane Austen’s story has delighted generations of readers. This new adaptation brings to life all of the wonderfully eccentric characters from Austen’s Little England as played by just five actors. “Private theatricals” were a popular pastime in the Austen family home, and adaptor Michael Fry has inventively placed his Emma within just such a setting. Sharp-tongued, beautifully observed, and with a charming lightness of touch, this is a “play within a play” which delightfully and ingeniously retains the words and wit of the classic novel. In celebration of the bicentenary of the novel’s publication.
