THE NEVER TOO LATE SHOW

Snap Judgment Performance of the Year Winner Don Reed presents an inspiring comic tale about never giving up. Both hilarious and heartbreaking, it chronicles his travails and perseverance through the Hollywood gauntlet to Late Night TV. This multimedia presentation features classic footage and graphics from The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson, HBO, FilmMagic, The National Comedy Center, and much more.

Nominated for three Primetime Emmy Awards, Don Reed has done voice work for Disney’s Gargoyles, Spider-Man, and The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest, appeared in movies including Unleashed, Fear of a Black Hat, and Once Upon a Forest and co-starred in the comedy series Bartlett alongside Broadway phenom Lin-Manuel Miranda. In 2009, he became the first African American warm-up comedian for a major late night show — and also warmed up for thousands of episodes of network television — from Frasier to The Golden Girls.

MR. SOUL
The Sam Cooke Story

We're "Having A Party" with Mr. Soul himself as portrayed by Allan P. Cason! Mr. Soul: The Sam Cooke Story delves into the life, music, and untimely death of the legendary, Sam Cooke through many of his greatest hits. His life cut short at the height of his career, Cooke’s undeniable legacy was buried under Los Angeles racial tensions and police corruption.

Allan P. Cason: Allan is the owner/operator of APC Entertainment, a multi-faceted entertainment company, as well as a professional vocalist, voice-over artist and musician. Since his passion for live theatre was rekindled in 2018 as Donkey in Shrek: The Musical he has enjoyed performing in other roles including Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar, Hud in Hair, and King Triton in The Little Mermaid.

Audience members are invited to stay for a Q&A with Allan P. Carson immdeiately following the performance.

This production is  part of Amplify — an initiative to address the inequality in performing arts programming. This program provides a platform and outlet for performing artists of all kinds, while expanding the inclusivity and outreach of the Curtis Theatre to a diverse artistic community.

This small group performs a repertoire of some of the best-loved chamber music selections as well as a few surprises. Come enjoy a delightful performance en plein air on the plaza level of the Brea Civic and Cultural Center between the Curtis Theatre and the Brea Gallery.
