orKIDstra: Splendid Stories
Tuesday, March 27, 2019 – 9:45AM & 11:30AM
Bremerton Symphony Orchestra at Bremerton Performing Arts Center
Sponsored by Bremerton Central Lions Foundation
This especially-for-kids school day program is just $5 per ticket! Maestro Futterman leads the orchestra in all-locally-written original music. Composer James Knauer’s whimsical score brings to life illustrations on the big screen by artist Tom Shannon for children's book Sometimes it Rains, written by author Paul Dufresne. Futterman's Fiesta Mexicana (with the sounds of Mariachi music from Jalisco, Mayan music from the Yucatan, Banda music from Sinaloa, marimba music from Vera Cruz) adds a Latin flare and contrasts the classical parts of the program in diverse style, highlighting the similarities and differences between these two cultural music traditions. Fourteen-year-old composer and pianist Elise Winkler will join us with her latest hit, Lament. New this year KING FM offers an interactive instrument petting zoo between the concerts to engage your students and inspire them to try their hand at making music!
This program is supported, in part, by grants from the Washington State Arts Commission and National Endowment for the Arts
