Fall Repertoire
October 12-13, 2024
The Fall Repertoire will include five pieces - Voices, Never Ending Road, Now We Are Free, Lavender, and Birdland.
Voices
Inside each of us, there is light and dark; good and evil, constantly at battle. Life is about creating balance, not suppressing your good, not suppressing your bad, but rather embracing them equally for one cannot exist without the other. We all have hatred, sorrow, greed, arrogance, and ego. We all also have kindness, empathy, peace, love, and compassion. The side you choose to fuel is the one that wins in the end.
Voices is choreographed by Nancy Page and set to the music of renowed West Chester composer, Samuel Barber.
Never Ending Road
The road now leads onward and I know not where
I feel in my heart that you will be there
Whenever a storm comes whatever our fears
The journey goes on as your love ever nears
Never Ending Road is choreographed by Nancy Page and set to the hauntingly beautiful music of Lorenna McKennitt.
Now We Are Free
Originally performed in 2009, this neo-classical piece was primarily choreographed to highlight the younger students of the ballet company, offering them a mature piece that challenges their artistic development.
Lavender
Lavender is set to a collection of songs by Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys and will be performed by Brandywine Contemporary.
Looking past the West Coast vibe and diving into the melodic arrangements and vocal harmonies, the dancers ride the wave of storytelling and masterful orchestrations of these timeless songs. Brian had a genius way of using the vocals as another instrument with songs such as "Our Prayer", "Good Vibrations", "Summer's Gone", "It's About Time", "God Only Knows" and others. The dancers look to bring these colorfully layered songs to the stage.
Birdland
Inspired by the characteristics, behaviors, and movements of birds. This work, choreographed by Meredith Rainey and performed by Brandywine Ballet Theatre, draws parallels between humanity and our fine-feathered friends.
Runtime will be about 2 hours including intermission.
