| | The Michigan Philharmonic Presents--The Sounds of the Pacific Rim

Music and ancient instruments of the Pacific Rim come together in one concert celebrating the cultural heritage of the Pacific Basin. Featuring Chinese-born Erhu master, Xiao Dong Wei, performing The Crouching Tiger Concerto for Erhu and Chamber Orchestra, - a concert work based on Tan Dun’s Oscar-winning score for Ang Lee's Oscar-winning film, Crouching Tiger- Hidden Dragon. Japanese Taiko Drums will also take center stage with the orchestra for a piece celebrating these ancient percussion instruments.
In addition to playing the work of Tan Dun, the concert will also be the premier of Hometown Reflections. A piece composed by Xiao Dong Wei for erhu and orchestra.
Celebrating it’s 80th season, the Michigan Philharmonic is one of the most innovative and dynamic professional orchestras in Southeast Michigan. Nan Washburn, Music Director & Conductor since 1999, has won 19 ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming of Contemporary Music from the League of American Orchestras. In 2019 the Michigan Philharmonic was awarded Second Place in the American Prize for Professional Orchestras.

Alice McAllister Tillman is a versatile artist whose voice has been described as “Exquisite,” “Mesmerizing,” “Magnificent,” “Brilliant” and “Beautiful!” She is known for her ability to perform music spanning many genres. Songs from My Heart will include Jazz, Show Tunes, Ballads and more! She will be joined by Alvin Waddles, piano, Takashi Iio, bass and Peter McAllister, drums.

Warren & Flick crafts a sound both invitingly full and authentically transparent; captivating listeners through original material that balances familiarity with an exploratory spirit. Jacob Warren plays double bass, and Grant Flick plays violin, tenor guitar and nyckelharpa. Their music is a reflection of their friendship and wide musical interests. Jacob and Grant spend much of their time arranging, composing and performing together primarily developing original works.
