On a quiet farm in America’s heartland, an Italian war bride becomes an average Iowan housewife. That is, until a National Geographic photographer, who is seeking directions to the area’s historic covered bridges, knocks on her door. As she helps him find the location for the photo shoot, an unexpected, yet powerful, connection grows. And so begins the story, told through beautiful music, of a sweeping romance that makes us question the roads we travel, the doors we open and the bridges we dare to cross.
The musical is based on the Robert James Waller’s 1992 best-selling novel, “The Bridges of Madison County”. The book was one of the most popular books of the 20th century, with 60 million copies sold worldwide. The story was also told in a 1995 film featuring Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep. The script was written by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Marsha Norman and the Music and Lyrics were written by Jason Robert Brown. Brown received two Tony Awards for writing and orchestrating the music for “The Bridges of Madison County”.
