“Over the last few years, Alex Bird & The Jazz Mavericks have become one of the biggest names on the Canadian Jazz scene. With praise from around the globe, Bird, alongside songwriting & piano partner, Farncombe, has created timeless and heartfelt originals for a modern audience. This talented team has produced something that is completely unique; three original albums in three years. Their sophomore album “You Are the Light and the Way”, backed by their “Jazz Mavericks”, was nominated for “Best Vocal Jazz” at the 2022 JUNO Awards.

Bird and Farncombe’s latest album, a duo record, dropped as a surprise of 11 originals entitled, “Songwriter”. Kira Grunenberg at DOWNBEAT MAGAZINE wrote, “Impassioned messages sung and played from one’s heart but worn on a well-dressed sleeve. “Songwriter” is an elegant, romantic, and well-executed gem of a record.” The album was nominated for “Best Vocal Jazz” at the 2024 JUNO awards.

Also in 2022, Bird & Farncombe wrote and released Canada’s Thanksgiving anthem “The Sweetest Moments” which received a national ad campaign across Canada, with interviews on CBC, CTV, and other major news outlets. In September of 2023, Alex, Ewen, and “The Jazz Mavericks” headlined The Sudbury Jazz Festival and finished it off with a workshop for emerging artists.

In addition to heading back to The JUNO Awards, 2024 will see Bird & Farncombe collaborating with Latin Grammy Winner & Grammy Nominee, Cheo, on an all-original Bossa Nova EP entitled “Casanova Bossa Nova Lover Man”.

“In this world, of ordinary singers, extra-ordinary singers, I’m glad there is Bird.” – JAZZ WEEKLY (USA)

From having over 500 million streams, to being named Canada’s “Guitarist of the Year,” to winning eight “Best Album” awards, to seven top-ten US Billboard charting albums, and winning the “People’s Choice” award in the UK, Johannes Linstead has become recognized internationally as one of the best selling guitarists in the Instrumental, New Age, Jazz and World Music genres.

Johannes’ vibrant music brings together musicians from many diverse ethnic backgrounds, including Cuba, Greece, Palestine, France, Canada, Australia, Iran, and the Dominican Republic. Upbeat rumbas and emotional ballads are fused with Latin percussion, and the occasional violin, piano, and accordion add distinct spices to his colorful albums.
Chances are even if you don’t know the name you’ve heard his music. Johannes’ songs have been used in some of the most popular TV shows, such as Miami Housewives, Californication, The Following with Kevin Bacon, Burn Notice, Gene Simmons Family Jewels, Pawn Stars, Person of Interest, and many others. World champion figure skater Stephane Lambiel used Johannes’ song “Zabuca” as part of his choreography during the Winter Olympics, and several of Johannes' songs were featured in hugely popular video game Tropical 4 and 5.

A modern singer/songwriter inspired by timeless classics; Callie McCullough has
chased her unique muse for years making Contemporary Roots music that nods to
the legends who came before her. It’s a sound anchored in honest storytelling and
McCullough’s angelic voice, whose Alison Krauss-worthy tone and Dolly Partonsized
beauty stand in contrast to her dry humor and larger-than-life personality.
With high praise from American Songwriter and Billboard Callie has made an impact
in the music scene with her vulnerable vocals, breathtaking lyrics, and fusion of, Folk
Celtic, Bluegrass and Traditional Country Influences. With the vocal chops of an
established pro, quick-witted humor and the fighting spirit of an independent
musician, she creates a musical tapestry that effortlessly captures classic and rootsy
nostalgia, coupled with her own contemporary twists, sharp song writing, and the
expressive singing of an artist who has truly found her voice.

McCullough’s debut album, After Midnight, featuring first-class picking from
members of the GRAMMY-winning bluegrass band Union Station and western-swing
super-group The Time Jumpers —quickly put her on the map, garnering a Canadian
Country Music Association Nomination for Alternative Country Album of the Year,
and four CMAO Nominations for: Two time Roots Artist of the Year, Rising Star and
Songwriters of the Year.

Now teamed up with Grammy Nominated Producer Dave Brainard (Brandy Clark,
Jamey Johnson) in this next round of music McCullough showcases a new side of her
artistry combining grassy textures, soaring melodies, killer harmonies, loose grooves,
and catchy hooks into an infectious and downright refreshing sound.
