Speak Easzy Storytelling Open Mic. Essex Theatre Company in colloboration with Bellfire Arts Collective will kick off its 2026 Summer Season with Open Mic Storytelling on Saturday, June 27, at 6:30 pm at the Masonic Lodge in Essex, NY. The public is invited to bring and share their stories in a lively event you don't want to miss! Door donations only, no ticket required.

Essex Theatre Company's Barn Dance & Adirondack Two-Step with live music will be held at Whallonsburg Grange Hall, 1610 NY-22, Essex, NY 12936, on July 10, at 7:00 pm. Too Tall String Band and Friends will play for the event. Costumes welcome. Snacks and drinks available. 

The music draws from Irish, Scottish, old-time, blue-grass, and French-Canadian folk traditions, creating a festive atmosphere. Square dancing and the two-step with dancers forming long lines of couples, with partners facing each other, will be explored. Each dance consists of a series of figures or moves that the caller teaches before the music starts and provides guidance during the dance. All are welcome to join the fun!

Maggie's Wake is an award-winning Canadian "new trad" folk group, who have created an exciting splash in the folk music scene, blending high twang, classic country with contemporary takes on celtic jigs and reels, cajun twin fiddles and regge rhythms. Their music is an original, genre-hopping adventure that has captured the hearts of audiences cross Canada and the United States.

The band features award-winning songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Tara Dunphy, and award-winning violinist/fiddler, songwriter & composer, Lindsay Schindler. Andrew Kosty is on bass and Kenneth Palmer on guitar.

The group plays at Essex Theatre at the the Masonic Lodge on Friday, July 17, and Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 7:00 pm.

Maggie's Wake Songwriting/Performance Workshop will be held on Saturday, July 18, between 10 am and 12 noon at Essex Theatre, Essex Masonic Lodge. Lunch included.

Led by Tara Dunphy, Lindsay Shindler with Andrew Kosty and Kenneth Palmer, Maggie's Wake invites you into a creative workshop that bridges tradition and innovation. Rooted in the rich history of traditional music, this session explores how familiar melodies and songs can be reimagined through modern arrangements, fresh harmonies, and contemporary rhythmic ideas. Participants will learn how to honor the essence of traditional tunes while shaping them into something new, dynamic, and uniquely their own. Maggie's Wake will also share how traditional melodies have inspired their own original writing and repertoire, offering insight into their own creative process. Whether you're a seasoned player or simply curious, the workshop provides inspiration, practical tools, and a fresh perspective on the evolving sound of traditional music.

Essex Theatre Company in cooperation with Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts will present William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet, directed by Jordan Hornstein, on Friday, July 24, and Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the Masonic Lodge in Essex, NY. Come and enjoy this timeless classic!

Essex Theatre Company's Cabaret Show with Thistle Tulla and Friends will be on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 7:00 pm at the Masonic Lodge in Essex, NY, highlighting jazz standards. Food, alcoholic, and non-alcoholic beverages available.

North Country's Got Talent, ETC's Fifth Annual Variety Show, on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 7:00 pm, will feature the many talents of Essex and the larger community. One $300 prize will go to the First Place Winner. Cheer on your on-stage friends and neighbors!

The Last Five Years, an intimate two-person musical by Jason Robert Brown, chronicles a five-year relationship through intersecting timelines, with a Broadway debut in 2025. Directed by Meg Trelease, through the auspices of Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts, it explores the romantic relationship between Jamie Wellerstein, a rising novelist, and Cathy Hiatt, a struggling actress over five years.

The performance will be on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 7:00 pm, at Essex Theatre Company at the Masonic Lodge in Essex, NY.

All tickets must be paid for in advance. You may be able to get tickets at the door, but subject to availability.
