Come along on another Laughterreise, the smash-hit, sold-out art song revue debuted by the quartet and a crew of notable Chicago comedians last season! This year’s programming focuses on love songs across the ages and will include excerpts from Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzes, appropriately performed by husband and wife pianist team Andrew Rosenblum and Maria Sumareva. Fourth Coast Ensemble is pleased to present the fourth annual Chicago songSlam- a unique opportunity for 10 composer/performer teams to premiere new art songs and compete for cash prizes. Each team will present a new song of 5 minutes or less for voice and piano for the voting audience, who - in the poetry slam tradition - will then vote on their favorites via text message and award $2,000 in prize money to the top three teams.
Back by popular demand, this year’s competition will be emcee'd by Chicago composer Stacy Garrop at the beautiful Nichols Concert Hall in downtown Evanston. Fourth Coast Ensemble will perform several of Ms. Garrop’s works to close the night as votes are tabulated. | Buy Tickets |

Folk music thrives in the city of Chicago and Fourth Coast Ensemble is privileged to work with some of the most beloved interpreters of American folk repertoire on this innovative program that blurs the line between recital and hootenanny! The quartet will perform an inheritance of works by musicians who contributed to the unique sound of American folk music, from Spirituals to the Seegers, alongside pianist Kuang-Hao Huang and the Jonas Friddle Band playing banjo, guitar, fiddle, and bass, among other instruments. This project will benefit from the oversight of superstar composer Shawn Okpebholo and folk favorite Peggy Browning and include original, workshopped arrangements of repertoire from all corners of the folk canon.
