25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

Feb. 15 – Mar. 3, 2019

An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box. Winner of the Tony and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Book, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor.

James and the Giant Peach

Mar. 29 – Apr. 14, 2019

A magical peach! An imprisoned boy! Insect friends! An incredible journey…all wrapped in a play! This amazing adventure of James Henry Trotter will fulfill the fantasy of anyone who has ever dreamed of escape. Roald Dahl’s story comes hilariously to life in this delightful dramatization that reveals the wickedness of some, the goodness of others, and the indecision encountered by many when they are faced with crises. You will see James (as he cleverly gets the Peach out of danger), the wise Old-Green-Grasshopper and the pessimistic Earthworm. You will also see James’ mean Aunt Spiker and cruel Aunt Sponge come to a suitably sticky end.

Pippin

Apr. 19 – May 5, 2019

Extra- Ordinary! From the composer of Wicked, Pippin is a young prince who longs to find passion and adventure in his life. What does it mean to live an extraordinary life? This is the question that drives Pippin through the adventures of war, sex, politics and love—all the while guided by the malicious hand of the Leading Player. While the Players strive to steer Pippin towards the perfect, theatrically tragic end of his story, Pippin begins to discover what it truly means to be extraordinary in our world. Full of dance, passion, and Schwartz’s iconic music (including “Corner of the Sky,” “Magic to Do,” and “Extraordinary”), Pippin is the ultimate theatrical experience that will leave audiences debating what boundaries are crossed for love!

Disenchanted!

May 10 – 26, 2019

Poisoned apples…glass slippers…Prince Charming. Who needs ’em? In this Disney-Princesses-Bridesmaids, hysterical and very direct musical, Snow White and her possé of sassy princesses prove that everyone has a dark side when they toss off their tiaras in an absurdly cheeky (and definitely NOT for the kiddies!) theatrical romp that’s anything but Grimm. Cinderella is kind of a nitwit; Snow White can be a little mean, and Sleeping Beauty? Apparently, she’s narcoleptic… and all three are “disenchanted.” When it comes to fairy-tale princesses, those are the “Big Three,” but they’re not the way Disney, let alone the Brothers Grimm, created them!
