IDT is thrilled to present the premiere of a major new work by guest choreographer, Jenn Freeman.
Jenn Freeman is a dancer, teacher, and choreographer based out of New York City. Professionally, she has danced in works by choreographers: Sonya Tayeh, Mia Michaels, Kyle Abraham, Larry Keigwin, Brook Notary, and many others. Most recently, Jenn has joined NOW International/Interdisciplinary Dance Company, under the direction of Charlotte Boye-Christensen, as a collaborator. She has assisted in the development of projects for The Martha Graham Dance Company, LA Ballet, Cirque du Soleil, Florence and the Machine, Madonna, The X-Factor, and The Brit Awards. Jenn has appeared in live performances for Target, The Rolling Stone's 50th Anniversary Tour, The MTV Video Music Awards, The Jimmy Fallon Show, and Comedy Central’s “The Comedy Awards”. She is a TISCH Graduate. With a strong belief in dance education and a love for the creative process, Freeman's choreography and unique teaching style is enlisted and performed by companies, studios, and collegiate programs nationally.
Gonzalo Valdez returns to IDT as a guest dancer and choreographer. His new work is set to music by Bajofondo an Argentinian band that has a unique blend of acoustic tango and electronic music. This upbeat and Latin style sets the mood for Gonzalo's fluid, fast paced choreography. Five of the company dancers including himself are featured in this fun, sensual and passionate piece that will get your blood going!
Artistic Director, Marla Hansen, premieres The Mountain,performed to a dynamic score for string quartet, takes you into the world of prey and predator, growth and decay. “The awe and interconnectedness I feel when I am in the mountains and the letting go is what inspires this new piece”. Marla's To Be Loved, a series of duets performed to the music of Tracy Chapman will also be in the April performances
IDT welcomes several more dancers for the April Performances: Lia Mrazek, Laura Haller, Barry Gans and Gonzalo Valdez. In addition, Ballet Idaho principal dancer, Andrew Taft, will be performing one of the duets from To Be Loved with IDT dancer Alia Kelley.
