The Merlin Players presents These Shining Lives
February 21, 22, 27, 28 & 29 at 7:30pm
February 23 at 2:00pm

Adult $15 • Child 12 & Under $9
*Tickets go on sale one month prior to opening night*

Directed by Julianna Skluzacek
Written by Melanie Marnich

“These Shining Lives” is inspired by the actions of real women in the 1920s. It tells the largely forgotten story of the “Radium Girls.” Catherine Donohue and her coworkers worked in factories painting glow in the dark watch dials, only to later be diagnosed with severe radiation poisoning. This play chronicles the strength and determination of these women considered expendable in their day. The play is not a tragedy but a triumphant celebration of these women’s battles to win against a company that lied to them. Come cheer these heroines on.

Walter Salas-Humara
Friday, April 24 at 7:30pm

Member $15 • Non-Member $20 • Student $10

A Cuban-American whose parents fled Castro’s Havana with him still in the womb, Walter Salas-Humara was raised bilingual just across the Florida Straits in Fort Lauderdale. College at the University of Florida in Gainesville and a residency with the Vulgar Boatmen left him with a lifelong habit of Mudcrutch/Tom Petty-style crunchy guitar riffs. Chasing the punk prairie fire to New York just in time to sift through the ashes, he formed The Silos in 1985 with guitarist Bob Rupe and violinist Mary Rowell, plugging the main cable of American rock idiom into the jerry-rigged soundboard of Velvets-era feral experimentalism.

“Walter has defined an Indy-Roots sound that helped bring the music we know as Americana into the modern age.” -Anthony DeCurtis, Rolling Stone

Neither Wolf Nor Dog - Film
Sunday, April 26 at 4:00pm
Adult $10 12 and Under $7

Adapted from the acclaimed novel by Kent Nerburn, this funny and deeply moving film follows an author
who gets sucked into the heart of contemporary Native American life in the sparse lands of the Dakotas by a 95-year-old Lakota elder. Kent Nerburn (Christopher Sweeney), a good-hearted, white American family man and writer, receives a mysterious call from a distant Indian reservation regarding an oral history book he made with Red Lake Ojibwe reservation students in northern Minnesota. Despite misgivings, Kent travels across America’s northern plains to arrive at the bleak, poverty-stricken reservation deep in the high plains of the Dakotas. The old man, Dan (Dave Bald Eagle), who lives alone in a clapboard shack back in the hills with his only real companions—his dog, a close friend named Grover (Richard Ray Whitman) and his granddaughter, Wenonah (Roseanne Supernault)—interrogates Kent as to his motives for working with Indian people. Once satisfied he is not a turquoise clad “wannabe” spouting Indian philosophy, Dan recounts the story of American history from the Native point of view. As the stories pour from Dan, Kent’s understanding of the world is turned upside down. An inanimate landscape comes alive, and a history he thought he knew is called into question.
