Fauré Requiem / Bernstein Chichester Psalms

Experience two stunning choral masterpieces in one exquisite concert.

Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem is extraordinary in its beauty and expression of emotion. Fauré described it this way: "Everything I managed to entertain by way of religious illusion I put into my Requiem, which moreover is dominated from beginning to end by a very human feeling of faith in eternal rest." The final movement of the work is truly transcendent.

Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms is a reflection on humankind’s closeness to God. The composer chose texts from six Psalms, and when setting them he could only imagine hearing the Psalms in the original Hebrew. Bernstein has described the work as, “…simple and tonal and tuneful and as pure B-flat as any piece you can think of…Because that was what I honestly wished to write.” If your only experience with Leonard Bernstein is West Side Story, Chichester Psalms just might become your new favorite.
