	'night, Mother by Marsha Norman directed by Suzanne Beal May 26 - June 11, 2023 Fri & Sat at 8pm; Sun at 2pm The STORY: The scene is the living room/kitchen of a small house on an isolated country road, which is shared by Jessie and her mother. Jessie’s father is dead; her loveless marriage ended in divorce; her absent son is a petty thief and ne’er-do-well; her last job didn’t work out and, in general, her life is stale and unprofitable. As the play begins Jessie asks for her father’s service revolver and calmly announces that she intends to kill herself. At first her mother refuses to take her seriously, but as Jessie sets about tidying the house and making lists of things to be looked after, her sense of desperate helplessness begins to build. In the end, with the inexorability of genuine tragedy, she can only stand by, stunned and unbelieving, as Jessie quietly closes and locks her bedroom door and ends her profound unhappiness in one fatal, stunning and deeply disturbing moment—a moment never to be forgotten by those who have witnessed, and come to understand, her plight. 	Baltimore Playwrights Festival Production WHAT WAS DONE written by Jack L. B. Gohn directed by Barry Feinstein produced by Miriam Bazensky, Baltimore Playwrights Festival July 14 - 23, 2023 Please note: Change in Performance Dates Fri & Sat at 8pm; Sun at 2pm A New Work by a local Baltimore Playwright. It’s 1978, in rural Maryland. Deirdre, a White historian working on grant money to complete a dissertation on lynchings in the state, is killing two birds with one stone, visiting farmland where the last Maryland lynching happened (in 1933) and stopping by her Uncle Selby’s home. An anomaly in the tax records of the farmland sets her on the trail of what really happened in the lynching, a story that reaches back to the 1840s and forward to 1978, and will turn out to involve Deirdre’s uncle, her uncle’s in-laws, Deirdre’s Black civil rights worker boyfriend, and their 14-year-old son. The story of endemic racism, once uncovered, will force the characters to make momentous decisions regarding allegiances, attitudes, and (it is implied) the politics of this present day.
