Once Upon a Time

Fairy tales have been the inspiration for musical compositions across the ages, from Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel and Offenbach’s Tales of Hoffman to Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite as narrated by Stephen Russell, from the Stratford Festival Company. In addition to these delightful selections, the SSO begins its 15th season featuring Katy Clark and Leanne Kaufman from the Canadian Opera Company.

Legend and Legacy

Approaching the 200th anniversary of Beethoven’s death, the SSO presents the Prometheus Overture and welcomes Listowel native Sarah Pratt as she performs Beethoven’s brilliant Violin Concerto in D.

We are thrilled to introduce Symphony 3 in G minor by French composer Louise Farrenc. An increasingly popular Romantic composer, she has been favourably compared both to Beethoven and Schumann.

Cows and Classics Concert in the Country

When the Stratford Symphony Orchestra board of directors was looking for a new fundraiser seven years ago, board member David Murray quickly offered up the farm he shares with wife Annamarie just outside Mitchell, as a possible venue to showcase local musical talent.

It was almost a no-brainer for David and Annamarie, as years earlier, while they were living just down the road, the couple hosted regular concerts on their porch, and later in their backyard, for as many as 300 people at a time - so they knew what it would take to put on an entertaining show for a large crowd.

As the Cows and Classics concert has become more well-known in the community, the calibre of musical entertainment has increased as has the number of musicians performing. This year's line-up is truly amazing!

Be sure to join us for our annual SSO outdoor concert, featuring our special guests in a magical garden setting. Enjoy a stroll through Annamarie's magical perennial gardens while experiencing a fun-filled afternoon of music performed by a wide range of wonderful guest performers.

Refreshments will be available.

Please bring your lawn chair.
