MANHATTAN SHORT is a celebration of short films and was established in 1998 on the streets of New York City. Today, it has transformed into a worldwide phenomenon. MANHATTAN SHORT screens 9 compelling shorts in 500+ cinemas simultaneously during the week of September 23 to October 3, 2021. MANHATTAN SHORT doesn’t have judges award the short films. Instead, they allow the audience (i.e. You) to be the judge. The audience votes for their choice of Best Film and Best Actor. Then on the last day of the festival, the short films with the most votes are announced as the winners. Manhattan Short is for film lovers who want to experience unique and riveting stories from all around the world.

10 finalists have been selected for the 2021 MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival! These 10 short films were selected from among 960 entries from 70 countries. MANHATTAN SHORT 2021 will take place from September 23rd - October 3rd where these 10 films will screen simultaneously in over 400 cities on 6 continents and the judge that chooses which film is the best is you, the audience. On entry to each venue, you will be handed a ballot card that allows you to VOTE for the BEST SHORT FILM and ACTOR at the conclusion of the program. Votes will be sent to MANHATTAN SHORT’s headquarters and the winner will be announced at on Sunday, October 3 at 10 pm EST. The directors and actors anxiously await your decision.

MANHATTAN SHORT began in 1998, when founder Nicholas Mason gathered an audience of 200 people and showed 16 short films on a screen mounted to the side of a truck on Mulberry Street, Little Italy, New York City. A year later the Festival moved uptown to Union Square Park NYC, where audiences grew to love the annual event. From these humble beginnings, MANHATTAN SHORT has now transformed into a worldwide phenomenon. Celebrating its 24th birthday in 2021, MANHATTAN SHORT is the only film festival on the planet to unfold simultaneously, in more than 500 cinemas on six continents, bringing over 100,000 film-lovers in all corners of the globe together for one week, via the next generation of filmmakers.
