Enter the smoky, jazz-fueled 1920s heartland, where the "Merry War" is fought with biting wit instead of swords. Between the haze of the speakeasies and the glitz of the social circuit, cynical Benedick and fiercely independent Beatrice clash in a high-stakes battle of hearts. In a world where gossip is dangerous currency, these two skeptics must decide if love is worth the risk.

Improv Workshop: Establishing Meaningful Relationships in a Scene

Great improv scenes aren't just about funny ideas. They're about characters who affect one another.

When relationships are clear, scenes have higher emotional stakes, stronger direction, and more interesting choices. Think about it: a disagreement between siblings feels very different from the same disagreement between coworkers. When we understand how the people in a scene relate to each other, we immediately have a reason to care about what's happening.

In this free, hands-on workshop, we'll explore simple, practical techniques for defining relationships early, making choices that feel natural and compelling, and building character connections that lead to more memorable scenes. We'll put these concepts into practice with exercises and games that keep things fun and educational (but mostly fun)!

No improv experience is required. Whether you're brand new to improv or a seasoned performer looking to sharpen your skills, you'll leave with tools you can start using right away.

This workshop is free and open to the public. Attendance is limited to 25 participants, so pre-registration is required.

Come play, learn, and discover how strong relationships can turn a simple scene into a story the audience can't help but care about.

Gut Instinct is an improvisational comedy team in Southwest Michigan. Eschewing the safety of a script, Gut Instinct relies on audience suggestions to inspire scenes that are made up on the spot, with hilarious results! Laugh until your gut hurts!
