Do our convictions apply in concept and only for others or across the board to include ourselves and those we love the most? Winner of the 2018 Drama Desk and Outer Critics Cirlce Awards for Best Play, Admissions savagely examines this through one family. Progressive, white parents, Sherri Rosen-Mason and her husband, Bill, both work in education. She is the admissions officer at an elite boarding school. He is the headmaster. Although they proudly celebrate their labored efforts to increase acceptance rates of students of color from 6% to 18%, they bemoan that there is still so much work to be done. However, when their Ivy-league hopeful son, Charlie, faces rejection because of his privilege and race, their celebrations of diversity, inclusion, and equity become much more difficult and are confronted with their inner hypocrite.

A parody of the 1935 film by Alfred Hitchcock, this play includes all the suspense of a civilian becoming mistakenly caught up in a spy ring, but with the hilarity of 4 actors taking on all 150 parts —sometimes even simultaneously — all while inserting references and puns to several famous Hitchcock films. Winner of the 2008 Tony for Best Play, the Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience, and the 2007 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy.

Local Gods

(Workshop)

By: Anton Sattler

Directed by: Christopher Paul Meyer

Thursday, October 13, 2022, 7pm

Runner-up in the inaugural VetRep full-length playwrighting contest, Local Gods is the story of Miriam, a longtime military police officer, who abruptly quits the Army after four tours in Iraq. But as she and her husband, Damon, attempt to reintegrate into civilian life, revisiting her old haunts and old friends, home feels like unfamiliar territory. Unfolding in tandem with flashbacks of memories, emails, and imaginings that won’t let Miriam go, this play is a keenly observed, poignant portrait of the losses we suffer when we go to war, and the losses we suffer when we come back.

  • Rockland Community College Cultural Arts Center
  • 145 College Rd., Suffern, NY 10901
  • Free

An intimate experience, this workshop explores the play with an eye towards full production. Upon the completion of the staged reading, the audience and actors will have the opportunity to provide feedback to the playwright and then enjoy some celebratory refreshments.

Witty and ludicrous. Endearing and irreverent. This series of satirical sketches will have you rolling in your seat. Have you ever met a complete stranger and yet carried on a 10-minute conversation as if you both actually knew each other? Get an inside look of an audition for the part of Tarzan by a man with only one leg. Watch an interview with a shepherd who was a witness to the events of Jesus’ birth but was not very impressed by it all.
