| Dark Sisters
A contemporary opera by Nico Muhly and Stephen Karam
Step into a world where faith, freedom, and identity collide. Dark Sisters is a gripping contemporary opera that explores the lives of women in the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS). Inspired by real events, this hauntingly beautiful work follows Eliza, a woman desperate to break free from the constraints of her polygamous sect, as she navigates love, loss, and the price of self-discovery.
With a mesmerizing score by Nico Muhly and a poignant libretto by Stephen Karam, Dark Sisters captures the stark beauty of the Utah landscape and the inner turmoil of women caught between devotion and defiance. Lush choral textures and striking individual voices bring their struggles and strength to life, making for a powerful theatrical experience that resonates long after the final note.
Experience an opera that dares to ask: How far would you go to find your own voice?
Content Warning: This production contains themes of religious oppression, child separation, forced marriage, and psychological distress. Viewer discretion is advised.
