Restore your torn, stained, or worn-out denim using Sashiko, a visible mending technique that originated in Japan and has been embraced by thrifty and creative folks around the world. In this beginner-friendly workshop, we'll use running stitch, the easiest of all embroidery stitches, to reinforce thin fabric, patch holes, and cover stains. Tranform your old jeans into your new favorite jeans!

10/09 Mend and Embellish Masterclass (F25AW2) Thursdays 10/09-10/30 6-8pm Room:305 Price: $155.25 15 14

Explore a wide range of techniques for mending and embellishing textiles in this four-session workshop: Sashiko, darning, basic embroidery, beading, and cross-stich using waste canvas. Each week, we'll practice a different technique and discuss the types of fabric for which it's best suited. There will be plenty of time for experimentation with different tools and materials, enabling you to develop your own style and approach. You'll never look at flawed textiles the same way again!

Designed for 55+. Would you like to cast on for a more complicated knitting pattern, but don't quite know where to start? Bring your project (or your ideas) to this six-week class. Students will work on the projects of their choosing, with as much (or as little!) assistance as needed. Discussion will be tailored to the individual needs and interests of students, but may include: Pattern and yarn selection, yarn substitution, knitting gauge, garment fit and size modification, advanced stitches or knitting techniques, fixing mistakes, and blocking and garment care.

Looking for a quick holiday gift or a unique winter accessory? This cabled headband checks all the boxes! Knitted cables may seem intimidating and too challenging to tackle, but those fancy-looking braids are easier than they look! In this 2-hour session, you will learn how cabled fabric is created, practice different techniques for making cables, discuss different tools that may be used, and understand how cables may alter pattern gauge and fit.

If you already know how to knit and purl but aren't sure what to do next, bring your project and your questions to the Knitting Studio! In this student-directed, four-week session, we will answer your burning knitting questions as we cover a range of topics such as advanced knitting stitches and techinques, selecting patterns and yarn, measuring knitting gauge and how it affects your final product, and how to get stalled projects back on track. Students should bring a project (pattern, yarn, and needles) or talk with the instructor to get help selecting materials. If there is a project you've been thinking about but just weren't confident enough to start, now is the time! Returning students are welcome to repeat this class with a new project.
