Class Description:
This adult improv class is for all levels of performers looking to build on skills and strengthen their chops as an improviser! As creatives we benefit from collaboration and meeting people where they are at, so each rendition of this class has been and will continue to be unique to the specific group of students. Through play, routine and dialogue: we will build up not only our listening skills and characters, but also a collaborative ensemble. Our work over seven weeks will prepare the group to perform a low stakes showcase performance of short and long form improv for your friends and family. What the showcase will look like specifically depends entirely on you and what you want to explore! If playing fun games while strengthening a challenging skillset sounds like your kind of party, you won’t want to miss this opportunity.

Shadow theater is a unique art-form with a rich history from cultures around the world. Join us at this Musical Summer Stage Camp for “The Love Must Go On”, a unique musical theater experience where high school performers will explore one of humanity’s most timeless questions: What is love? Over the course of the camp, students will dive into the many forms love can take—romantic, platonic, community, familial, self-love, heartbreak, healing, and more—through the rich storytelling power of song. Campers will collaborate to choose songs from a wide variety of shows, artists, and styles, which will then be woven together into an original showcase performance. Guided by experienced instructors, students will not only rehearse and perform, but also shape the emotional arc of the production—crafting a musical journey that moves the audience through love in all its beauty and complexity.

Class Description:
Augusto Boal’s Theater of the Oppressed, students will engage deeply with the main components including Teatro Foro, Image Theater, and Invisible Theater. Students will share their own stories, listen to the stories of others, and co-create theater pieces based on these stories. They will study the profound coercive nature of tragedy as it pertains to contemporary forms of art and also “rehearse” many possible responses and resistance to oppression and try out practices in freedom. Students will apply the concepts of coercive tragedy, poetics, virtue, and catharsis to create their own story at the end of the week.
