The 20th season of the Met’s Live in HD series will feature eight live Met performances transmitted to movie theaters and other venues across the globe, beginning with Mozart’s Così fan tutte (October 3, 2026) and continuing with Verdi’s Macbeth (October 17, 2026), Saint-
Saëns’s Samson et Dalila (December 5, 2026), Puccini’s La Fanciulla del West (January 23, 2027), Kevin Puts’s Silent Night (March 20, 2027), Massenet’s Manon (April 3, 2027), Verdi’s Otello (April 24, 2027), and Wagner’s Parsifal (June 5, 2027).

HA-CHAN, SHAKE YOUR BOOTY

Haru and Luis love competing in Tokyo’s ballroom dance scene, but after tragedy strikes, Haru withdraws into isolation. When friends coax her back to the studio, she develops an infatuation with the new instructor. She must face what comes next as sparks fly.

WICKER

On the outskirts of a village by the sea, lives a Fisherwoman; smelly, single and perpetually ridiculed. One day, fed up with her stuffy, small-minded neighbors, she commissions herself a husband to be made from wicker. In an otherwise conservative town, this unconventional romance sparks outrage, jealousy and chaos.

JAMES McNEILL WHISTLER

In an era of great change and great beauty emerged the character of James McNeill Whistler. Considered by some to be one of the great innovators of 19th century art, he was a contemporary of the Impressionists, much admired by Van Gogh and Manet. Boldly experimental and famously witty, Whistler disrupted the strict conventions of Victorian society in pursuit of a new cult of beauty, creating “art for art’s sake” and earning himself a place in the history of great art. He found a parallel between painting and music, and entitled many of his paintings “arrangements”, “harmonies” and “nocturnes”, emphasizing the importance of tonal harmony in his work.

His most famous painting, Arrangement in Grey and Black No. 1 (1871), commonly known as Whistler’s Mother, is a revered and often parodied portrait of motherhood. It is arguably one of the most famous paintings in history and this film will unveil the artist behind the art.

Tate Britain is now holding the first major retrospective of Whistler in three decades. This blockbuster exhibition promises to reawaken the world to just how important Whistler is to art history, uniting world-famous masterpieces with rarely seen works. Exhibition on Screen will bring these stunning works and the incredible story behind them to cinemas around the world while the exhibition is still running, bringing this truly global artist to a global audience. This will be an unmissable chance to get to know this visually spectacular artist and the influence he has had on those who followed.

METROPOLITAN OPERA ENCORE: CARMEN

Richard Eyre’s beloved production of Bizet’s masterpiece returns to theaters for a special encore this season, led by mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča as the title character and tenor Roberto Alagna as Don José in the iconic 2010 Met performance—a fan favorite of The Met: Live in HD series. Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts.

Embark on a global journey from heli-drops in Alaska and high-alpine mountaineering in Chamonix to the legendary powder of Hokkaido, Japan. METROPOLITAN OPERA ENCORE: Julie Taymor's THE MAGIC FLUTE

Mozart’s heartwarming fairy tale follows the adventures of the noble prince Tamino and his lovable sidekick, the bird catcher Papageno, on their quest to rescue the princess Pamina. Julie Taymor, the Tony Award–winning director of Broadway’s The Lion King, gives Mozart’s beloved fable a whimsical setting with dazzling puppetry and costumes. This transmission made history as the Met’s first Live in HD transmission to theaters worldwide 20 years ago and returns in a special encore presentation.

METROPOLITAN OPERA LIVE: SILENT NIGHT

Following his smash-hit company debut with The Hours, composer Kevin Puts returns to the Met with his Pulitzer Prize–winning first opera, inspired by the true events of the 1914 Christmas truce, when soldiers spontaneously set aside the horrors of the First World War and crossed the trenches to mingle, exchange gifts, and sing carols with the enemy. A poignant depiction of shared humanity in the most inhumane circumstances, Puts’s grand, cinematic opera—with a libretto by Mark Campbell based on the film Joyeux Noël—has been widely acclaimed since its 2011 premiere, hailed as “an overwhelming emotive experience” by The Guardian. Silent Night receives an evocative staging by James Robinson that takes the audience directly to the battlefields of the Western Front. The star-studded cast, featuring soprano Elza van den Heever and tenors Ben Bliss and Rolando Villazón, among many others, is conducted by debuting maestro Dalia Stasevska live from the Met to cinemas worldwide. METROPOLITAN OPERA LIVE: OTELLO

One of today’s leading dramatic tenors, Brian Jagde takes on the tour-de-force title role of what many consider the ultimate Italian opera, live to cinemas worldwide. Verdi’s monumental Shakespearean tragedy also features soprano Ailyn Pérez in her company role debut as the long-suffering Desdemona, alongside baritone Artur Ruciński as the sinister Iago. Michele Mariotti leads the full forces of the Met Orchestra and Chorus in the exhilarating score. This live cinema transmission is part of the Met’s award-winning Live in HD series, bringing opera to movie theaters across the globe.

METROPOLITAN OPERA LIVE: PARSIFAL

A profound philosophical meditation on compassion and reconciliation, this transcendent rendering of a medieval knight’s heroic quest for the Holy Grail returns to the big screen in François Girard’s celebrated production, a “thoughtful and intrepid staging, full of striking imagery” (The New York Times). Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts a cast of Wagnerian superstars, including tenor Piotr Beczała in the title role, mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča as the enigmatic Kundry, baritone Peter Mattei as the ailing Amfortas, bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green as the sorcerer Klingsor, and bass Jongmin Park as the wise Gurnemanz.
