In the late 1980s, British sailor Tracy Edwards decided she’d had enough of often being dismissed and belittled as the only woman among male seafarers. Setting her sights on the Whitbread Round the World Race, she assembled the world’s first all-female, multinational sailing crew, oversaw their DIY refurbishment of a beat-up old vessel, and entered the competition.
