MARTHA’S VINEYARD v. DeSANTIS

In September 2022, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis used the promise of jobs and housing to lure 49 Venezuelan migrants onto private planes to drop them off on the island of Martha’s Vineyard — a stunt which fueled a political and media firestorm.

Martha’s Vineyard v. DeSantis tells this story through the personal lens of four young migrant cousins, along with the lead attorneys and Texas sheriff who are working to hold DeSantis and his cronies accountable.   With graphic detail, the film brings to light this cynical right-wing plot to use migrants as political pawns, while humanizing the plight of those willing to risk life and limb in hopes of earning a small piece of “The American Dream.”

A 45-minute film produced for MSNBC Films by Oscar-nominated filmmakers Kate Davis and David Heilbroner.

Co-presented by The MV Film Society and Circus Arts.Screening will be followed by a discussion moderated by journalist Charlie Sennott with lead attorneys Rachel Self and Ivan Espinoza-Madrigal, and Mass. State Representative Dylan Fernandes, along with four Venezuelan cousins from the film, who now live on the Vineyard.
