| | LANDSCAPE
The 2026-2027 season for CGOA's Gorge Sinfonietta opens with a program designed to explore landscape and the nature around us. The centerpiece of this concert is the Third Symphony of Sibelius, which treats listeners to the sounds of the North - the calm and serene sounds of Finland. We will hear the Vaughan-Williams work, Norfolk Rhapsody no. 1, comprised of folk songs from a fishing village in England. Also on the program is Dvorak's Hussite Overture, depicting his Czech homeland and the 15th century Hussite wars, which includes deeply patriotic Czech songs.

| | RUSSIAN SPRING
3 Performances!
Orchestral music from Russia has been some of the most sought after and longstanding repertoire in classical music. CGOA's Gorge Sinfonietta explores three seminal composers who left a significant impact in orchestral music, but not their most renowned works. Rimsky-Korsakov's Russian Easter Overture is a brilliant and intoning work, moving from the orthodox church into the light as it explores all of the amazing orchestral colors that this fantastic orchestrator could create. Shostakovitch's October has all of the intensity and grandeur of his symphonies in a tone poem of fifteen minutes. If you're looking for drama in music, Shostakovich is it. And lastly, we visit Tchaikovsky's Symphony no. 2. The opening horn solo brings the call of the stage like his ballet works, and the symphony unfolds with all of the Russian drama and beauty that one expects from this musical cornerstone.

| | STORYTELLING
CGOA's Sinfonietta's final program of the season is about character and storytelling, featuring three fantastic works. The centerpiece of this program is Maria Schneider's work, Carlos Drummond de Andrade Stories, written for Dawn Upshaw and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. This will be a not-to-be-missed event, as our soloist brings the stories of the Brazilian poet to life through Schneider's exotic and wistful composition. American master Aaron Copland's, Billy the Kid Suite, invokes the western character through every movement, including cowboy tunes, a Mexican fiesta dance, and more. Lastly, the suite from William Grant Still, Wood Notes, celebrates the American South with poems from J. Mitchell Pilcher.
