Glorious!

By Peter Quilter

Directed by Bryan Bergeron

September 16 - October 2

Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm

Sundays at 2 pm

Special Saturday Matinee: Oct 1 at 2 pm

Hilarious comedy of the worst singer in the world In 1940's New York, the performer who everyone wanted to see live was Florence Foster Jenkins, an enthusiastic soprano whose pitch was far from perfect. Known as 'the first lady of the sliding scale', she warbled and screeched her way through the evening to an audience who mostly fell about with laughter. But this delusional and joyously happy woman paid little attention to her critics, instead she was surrounded by a circle of devoted friends who were almost as eccentric as she was.

Based upon a true story, the play spins from Florence's charity recitals and extravagent balls, through to her bizarre recording sessions and an ultimate triumph at Carnegie Hall in this hilarious and heart-warming comedy.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a film based on a musical made in the early 1970's. The original musical was a campy comedy making fun of all the horrible sci-fi and “B”-movies of the 1940's, 50’s and 60's: A variety of weird and naughty things happen to a nice, little Middle-American couple (Brad & Janet). When they stumble upon an annual convention of aliens, all lead by a cross-dressing doctor bent on making himself a Frankenstein-style monster/playmate. Depravity, singing, dancing, and eventually, mutiny ensues!

The Shadow Cast:
A shadow cast is a group of performers who study the film or video recordings for the sole purpose of adapting/interpreting it into a pantomime stage performance. When done well, everything that goes on in the film is performed by live actors in perfect synch while the film plays.

The Audience:
Yes, YOU get to be part of the show! Many audience members express themselves through attire: whether to mimic their favorite characters, elicit a reaction from fellow theater-goers, or to flaunt their own flavor of depravity. We encourage you to dress as your favorite character. The weirder...the better!

Gilbert and Sullivan are the undisputed masters of comic operetta and the proud parents of the modern musical. That their works are more in demand today than when they were created over a century ago is ample proof of their lasting brilliance.

"We shall laugh at the jokes and smile at the social satire, but behind both are some extraordinary music and Arthur Sullivan's talent for pushing irresistible melody into long, rushing sequences that never lose their equilibrium. This is not superficial stuff."

- Bernard Holland, The New York Times

The timeless enchantment of a magical fairy tale is reborn with the Rodgers & Hammerstein hallmarks of originality, charm and elegance. Originally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella was the most widely viewed program in the history of the medium. Its recreation in 1965 starring Lesley Ann Warren was no less successful in transporting a new generation to the miraculous kingdom of dreams-come-true, and so was a second remake in 1997, which starred Brandy as Cinderella and Whitney Houston as her Fairy Godmother.

The family of Martin Vanderhof lives “just around the corner from Columbia University — but don’t go looking for it.” Grandpa, as Martin is more commonly known, is the paterfamilias of a large and extended family of charming eccentrics. His granddaughter, Alice, is an attractive and loving girl who is still embarrassed by her family’s idiosyncrasies. When Alice falls for her boss, Tony, a handsome scion of Wall Street, she fears that their two families – so unlike in manner, politics and finances – will never come together. But why be obsessed by money? After all, you can’t take it with you...

One of the most popular and successful plays of modern times, You Can't Take It With You is Kaufman and Hart's hilarious, delightful portrait of a charmingly eccentric family.
