Episode 2.3: Phoenix of Mexico

Bassoonist Catalina Guevara Víquez Klein, violinist Karin Cuellar Rendon (last seen in SalonEra’s popular Latin Baroque episode), and soprano Raquel Winnica Young each have a personal connection to “The Phoenix of Mexico,” Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz (1648-1695). In this special episode, the three musicians explore the legacy of de la Cruz as a poet, composer, and protofeminist through new remote collaborations and conversation.

A Baroque opera pastiche with puppets and projected imagery based on Catherine D’Aulnoy’s 17th C feminist retelling of Puss in Boots. Original libretto by Larry Rosenwald (Guggenheim Award winner 2020) with music by Lully, Couperin, Marais, and others.

THE CONCERT SERIES includes five new productions, all available in beautiful cinematic quality on MarqueeTV! In February, Les Délices returns to live productions, performing the final two season performances in Cleveland and Akron, OH. 

Virtual-only and hybrid sustainer-level subscriptions are available for $125 and $200 respectively. Single tickets for virtual concerts will be sold directly through MarqueeTV. Single tickets for in-person performances will be available for $5-$40 starting in December.
