Sparrow Mass K. 220

Sunday, March 6 at 3:00 PM
Hitchcock Presbyterian Church

John T. King, Conductor

Amani Cole-Feder, Soprano
Siphokazi Molteno, Mezzo-Soprano
Manase Latu, Tenor
Jongwon Han, Baritone

Amani Cole-Feder, Siphokazi Molteno and Manase Latu appear by kind permission of the Metropolitan Opera Lindemann Young Artist Development Program.

Haydn's extraordinary Thereiesenmesse in B-flat major, written in 1799, belongs to a series of six masses he wrote to celebrate the name day of Princess Maria Hermengilde, the wife of his patron, Prince Esterhazy II. It is a gem, with all of the variety, energy and contrapuntal skill of Haydn at the height of his compositional career, yet, its unusual scoring for clarinets, trumpets, timpani, organ and strings, creates a unique mellowness not found in any of the other masses from this period.

We will open the evening with Mozart's Sparrow Mass.

Please note that due to the COVID-19 pandemic all performances are subject to change.
