Steven Wright

presented by ACG

Academy Award winner Steven Wright is a prototype comedian that many others continually try to follow. One of four children, Wright was raised in Burlington, MA. Upon graduating from Emerson College and holding a bevy of odd jobs, Steven attended an “open mike” audition and became a regular performer at Ding Ho’s Comedy Club and Chinese Restaurant in Cambridge, MA. It was during this time that Steven got his big break and was booked for his first “Tonight Show” appearance on Friday, August 6, 1982. The king of late night enjoyed the performance so much he invited Steven to appear again the following Thursday, a rarity on “The Tonight Show.” His back-to-back appearances helped put his fledgling career into high gear. The comic soon found himself performing his off-beat routines on “Saturday Night Live,” “Late Night with David Letterman,” and numerous trips back to “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.”

JOHN DENVER Musical Tribute

Starring Ted Vigil

Sun., Oct. 16, 2 pm

Celebrating music that evokes memories of inspirational influence

The legendary John Denver’s music was a combination of romance—“Annie’s Song;” folk—“Leavin’ On A Jet Plane;” country—“Thank God I’m A Country Boy;” and environmentalism—“Calypso.” Ted Vigil had been writing, recording and performing his original compositions, leading to winning the national title for Talent Quest in Laughlin, Nevada in 2006. After this win, Ted began to plan a John Denver tribute show and began singing his way all over the U.S. In 2010 he performed with John Denver’s lead guitarist, Steve Weisberg. Ted is not an impersonator, but rather a tribute artist who is honored to carry on the music of John Denver. Vigil will be joined on stage by his 3-piece band—keys, bass and drums. Ted’s polished, energetic performing style tends to warm audiences instantly. You too may walk out of this concert feeling refreshed and joyous.

"Ted Vigil closely resembles John both physically and musically."
-the late Steve Weisberg, John Denver’s touring guitar accompanist

ANIMAL: A Farm Story
By Cirque Alfonse

Thursday, April 6, 7:30 pm

Circus, song, dance and theatre all come together

From the troupe that brought us “TIMBER!,” Cirque Alfonse is back. This new production serves up farm fables with a touch of irreverence, comedy and impressive virtuosity. In this re-invented agricultural world, the farm is turned upside down and the barn turned inside out! A farmer has surrounded himself with some familiar but slightly outlandish creatures: the chickens have teeth, the ducks are slightly menacing and the cows are kicking up a fuss. In this “farm fantasy,” imagination conjures up stories from childhood, rural life proves to be both energetic and poetic and clichés are joyfully turned on their head. The clan of family and friends that make up Cirque Alfonse takes a multidisciplinary approach where circus, song, dance and theatre all come together, driven by original live music … an irresistible mix of trad and soul that the troupe calls “agricultural funk!” A production for young and old alike, ANIMAL is the farm gone haywire!
