2024 marks the 100th Anniversary of George Gershwin's.Rhapsody in Blue. Gershwin was an American who excelled as a composer and pianist in both classical and popular music worlds. This celebration features acclaimed Canadian artists in performances of Rhapsody in Blue, songs from Broadway muscial theatre, and excerpts from Porgy and Bess, the greatest American opera.
Internationally acclaimed concert pianist Daniel Vnukowski, who will play the Rhapsody, will host the evening, which is highlighted by an appearance by Adrianne Pieczonka, star of the Metropolitan Opera, Vienna State Opera and Canadian Opera Company. Susan Aglukark is Canada's first Inuk artist to win a Juno, now she has four, a Governor General's Performing Arts Award for lifetime artistic achievement, and she is an officer of the Order of Canada and much more.
As a singer-songwriter beginning in the early 1990s, Susan discovered the platform of learning, sharing and healing, that inspired her major label debut album This Child, released in January 1995. She has since written and recorded 10 albums, founded the Arctic Rose Foundation, authored two children's books and has a personal memoir in the works.
