The love story of Ethel and Norman Thayer, returning to their summer home on Golden Pond for the 48th year. He, a retired professor with heart palpitations and a failing memory is still as tart-tongued, as ever. She, ten years younger, the perfect foil, delights in all the small things that have enriched their long life together. A visit from their divorced daughter and her new fiance, leaves behind an unexpected Summer “gift”, his teenage son. Not exactly the "grandchild" the couple have longed for, but as Norman revels in taking his ward fishing and thrusting good books at the teen, he also learns some new things in return!
