Newsies Jr.

December 2-11, 2022

MAINSTAGE THEATRE

New York City, 1899. Jack Kelly and his ragtag team of newsboys make a meager living selling newspapers on the city streets. But when the prices of “papes” are hiked and the newsies are hung out to dry, there is nothing left to do but “open the gates and seize the day!” Led by charismatic Jack and independent, young newspaper reporter Katherine Plummer, the Newsies form a union and organize a strike against the greedy publisher of the New York World. Can a group of idealistic newsboys win against a foe as powerful as acclaimed publisher Joseph Pulitzer? Inspired by the true story of the 1899 Newsboys Strike, Newsies is an ebullient, joyful, and entertaining musical capturing the strength that young people have when they join together and stand up against injustice. With a funny, poignant book by Harvey Feirstein and stunning music by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman -- including the show-stopping Seize the Day, power ballad “Santa Fe” and lovely new songs like Katherine’s “Watch What Happens -- Newsies is a classic with the power to inspire.

Part of the TWS Performance Series of Fundraisers!

Another Round is Indiana University's premier all-male (mostly single) a cappella group. Established in 1996, Another Round has entertained audiences in Bloomington and beyond for two decades. By pairing their rich harmonies with their signature sense of humor, Another Round puts their audiences in the middle of a truly unique entertainment experience. Their chemistry and showmanship leave you with a feeling of hometown charm unique to the group's beloved Bloomington, Indiana.

Originally named Straight No Chaser, the group was founded in 1996 by Dan Ponce and several friends from the world-renowned Singing Hoosiers. In 2008, a video of the group singing a unique rendition of "The 12 Days of Christmas" went viral, leading to a deal with Atlantic Records for the founding members. Although the school group is no longer known as Straight No Chaser, the music and traditions continue to be preserved under the new name: Another Round.

A night with the group will leave you with a tune in your head and a smile on your face. No matter what the scene, you could always use Another Round.
